New Yarraville supermarket …

UPDATE 29/9: It’s open – read about our first visit here.

Goodbye sad-sack predecessor; hello swish new joint!

Fit-out now righteously underway, with the new boss taking a profoundly hands-on role – that’s him in the forefront!

He tells me they’ll be opening in about two weeks.

Ooohh, so exciting!

I may have even inveigled my way to an invite to the launch party.

  1. That’s interesting news! Is this where the IGA is/was on Anderson St?

Do you have any more details Kenny? Wondering if it’s part of a chain or independent, and what sort of produce they’ll be stocking.

    • Not IGA, the sad ol’ FoodWorks further along. I didn’t take notes of my brief conversation with the new boss, so am shaky on the details. IIRC, while it will continue to have some affiliation with FoodWorks, it will be known by the name of Village Shop or some such. Moreover, reading between the lines I reckon it could be something a little different. I hate the word “gourmet”, but you know what I mean.

      • Ok, I didn’t realise there were 2 supermarkets on the same street. Only ever have visited the IGA when the need has arisen in Yarraville.

It would be great to have somewhere offering a more premium range of goods in the inner west though. Like you say, “gourmet” is not a word I’d aver, but a supermarket with interesting and different produce quite close to home would be welcome.

      • Juz, IGA works OK for us. The FoodWorks a bit further along was sad and run down. A new place with some swishy lines could be a good thing. Coffee? Live music? Poetry readings? Cooking demos? In-house massages? Who knows? 🙂
